Stepping Into 2017.

I genuinely do not know what has happened to this year.  2016 just started...then ended.   I recall seeing a video on Facebook this week, I'm sure some of you have seen it, where a guy involuntarily bounces down a waterslide, each bounce indicating several months throughout the year, and then as he approaches the end of 2016, he is catapulted into 2017!!  It's brilliant, I loved it.   This totally describes my year.

Anyway....

The passed few years I admit I haven't particularly made any new years resolutions, but for me, for 2017 I would like to:

Save a bit more money.  This means not spending money on crap, and keep up with my money jar technique.  Basically I have taken some money out and put it into a jar to stop me from using my bank card and forgetting what I have spent my money on.  I only take the cash when I need it, like for petrol etc.   It's working out ok so far.

And really, the only other thing I have come up with at the moment is I would like to start baking more.  I watched The Great British Bake Off again tonight, and it has definitely rubbed off on me this year.  So I would like to do a bit more of that.  Apparently, I have heard, it can be very therapeutic!

I think I will leave it at that for now.  The last few years I have made New Years resolutions I haven't been able to keep any of them.  Last year I was dead set against making any I seem to recall.  So I will just go with the two I think.  I like to keep things simple.   I am thinking about making some blogging 'goals' as well, which I actually have never, ever done before, but I think I will start off with some little monthly goals, instead of making some really huge yearly ones that might not work.... So I shall have to see what 2017 will bring.

Now I just need to locate my new diary, because I have put it safe somewhere....

Happy New Year everyone!

Why Thrift Shopping Appeals To Me.

This is probably the first fashion related post I think I have ever written in my entire blogging experience.   Working full time in retail, you would think I would be a bit more fashion orientated but I am not really.  It might have something to do with the fact I work on a Homewares department.   However I do shop at New Look and Dorothy Perkins quite regularly.  I love colourful dresses and patterned trousers, and funky T. Shirts that I mainly get from Primark!!

However, I am a really big fan of thrift stores and boutiques.  There is a store in my town called Ruby Red , and that has some really stunning dresses in there.   Several of the dresses I have in my wardrobe are from there.  And for between £15 to say £30, you can get some really beautiful, and often quirky dresses.  So you could find something very similar to what you may have seen in New Look or Next, in one of these stores for a fraction of the price.  And I love bargains!  Who doesn't love bargains?!  But the main reason why I love thrift stores is, if you are willing to go on a bit of a hunt, you can find some really unique outfits from them.  I have two favourite dresses from thrift stores, one is a blue dress with butterflies, and the other a red dress with black cats.  And I also have a dark green, wool checked waistcoat with multi-colour buttons on.  It's really cool.  It's very fitted.   And it's not just clothes, you can get some really nice shoes or bags from there.  And gifts.  Anything really.  I love quirky gifts at bargain prices.

This year most of my Christmas presents that I bought for people were from the internet, but I am thinking for next year, I might explore a bit more and see what I can find in an actual shop, for gifts and for myself.  I might be able to find some pretty vintage dresses or tops for myself perhaps....And at the fraction of the price.  Plus, I reckon they would last longer than if I bought all my clothes from Primark!!! Although Primark is good for some things.  Like boots for work.  So this is why thrift store appeal to me, and I think I shall start exploring them a little bit more.  I can imagine the treasures that could be found are endless.

Why I Find It Is Important To Leave Online Feedback.

Leaving online feedback I am finding is growing ever popular as each year passes.   I have worked at House Of Fraser now for thirteen and a half years now, on the Homewares department which also includes our Buy and Collect service.  One of the most important things I have learnt over the passed few years is what we call 'the voice of the customer'.   So sometimes a customer will ask to speak to a manager about our service, or write directly to a manager about the (hopefully) fantastic service they that have received whilst in store which is great.  But what has also become very popular, certainly in my opinion this year, is a lot of customers have started to leave online feedback about a product they have bought either online, or in store, and sometimes, on the service they have received purchasing that item.

Going with the positive notion on this one, I think it is so important to find out how happy your customers are, with say that tea set they bought their parents for Christmas this year.  In my experience as well as my own opinion, I feel that really has a positive effect on how any retailer designs and markets their products, in order to keep up with the current and ever changing trends in retail.

As we do live in a world of technology, it can be just so easy to leave feedback online to a retailer, or  send that particular store and email, even if you have physically purchased the item in a store.  But sometimes it is really nice to write in a little letter to say how happy you are with someone's service as well, but I find that most people will generally send an email.

One of the things that has happened to me this year is I had a lady come into the store a few months ago, who was after a small bathroom cosmetic mirror which she had seen on the website.  Unfortunately the website had ran out of stock but she came in with the line number of the mirror ( I swear to God, I at the time thought she was a mystery shopper!!) to see if we had it in store instead.  So the lady approached me and I looked online to see what it looked like (always best to know what you are looking for...) and then went on the hunt for her.  And I found it.  I was actually quite ecstatic that I had found this little mirror, nevermind the customer.   Anyway the lady bought it, and then a few days later my store manager received an email from the customer stating hour happy she was that I had found this little mirror for her, despite being the only one left.  And I had gone 'rooting' in the stockroom for a little while for it too.  But I found it.  The thing is, is it meant so much to me that afterwards, this lady took a few minutes of her time to write and send a little email to say how happy she was with the service she had received from me that day, also stating in the email to say how happy I was as well that I had found this mirror for her... which I was.  That was a great day in work!!!

So as I have done most of my Christmas shopping online this year, a huge majority of it from Amazon I must say, and...they all came on time...I have given feedback directly to them for getting everything here in time for Christmas and all in great quality condition, which is what you would expect.  I think it is always so important to feedback to a company on how their product has been received as well as the service they receive.  And for any company, good feedback can give them the opportunity to innovate and grow even bigger.

That is why I think it is important to leave online feedback.  After all it only takes a few minutes of your time.  And just with the click of a button, it is so quick and easy to do.   And it means an awful lot when it is done.

Pop Vinyl Figures I Would Love To Own.

I really love my movies, and now I love my movie collectibles just as much.  When I first saw the Pop! Vinyl figures I wasn't too sure about them and this is mainly down to the fact I prefer a bit of detail to my collectibles.   However....as more and more have started to surface not just the movie figures, but the TV figures as well, I have discovered how much I would really love to own one....or maybe ten!!  And despite the fact I feel that they are just a tiny bit overrated, I don't really care.  I still want one.

So anyway, whilst I was doing my own research to see what Pop! Vinyl figures were available, I came across this website called www.popinabox.co.uk and there are loads on there.  I didn't realize there were quite so many.  This is actually a subscription website as well, and having read several other blogs who have posts on you know, subscription beauty boxes and stuff I get the idea how they work.  I think they make a fantastic gift, particularly for Christmas as it is on just around the corner now.

I have compiled a little list of the Pop! Vinyl figures I would love to have, even though I have absolutely no idea where they would live if I started collecting them.....Actually, I could clear the tops of my double wardrobes and put them on top of there.   Just answered my own question didn't I!!

Anyway...My Top Ten Pop! Vinyl figures so far.

10)  Disney's Maleficent.

9)   Disney's The Lion King's Simba - He looks so cute.

8)   Disney's Cinderella.

7)   Supernatural: Dean.

6)   Supernatural: Sam.

Got to have some Supernatural in there, I really love that show.

5)   Harry Potter: Tri-Wizard Harry.

4)   Friends: Joey Tribiani.

3)  Labyrinth Hoggle.

I love Labyrinth, it's one of my favourite movies ever.  I really like both Jareth and Hoggle in the Pop! Vinyls, especially Hoggle because he is actually really detailed, probably the most detailed one I have seen.  He is so good.

2)  IT Pennywise The Clown.

1)  Funko Jareth (Labyrinth)

That's all I have up to now, but I want them.  I think they are becoming quite popular too, even though they are not very detailed, I am finding all the ones I have come across I can still tell what or who they are.  I think they are quite cool.   They make a great stocking filler Christmas gift I think.

10 Things About Me.

I am finding it quite strange starting a new blog knowing I have had three previous blogs before this one.  I am wondering whether doing a lifestyle blog will be easier than doing the other types I have done before, which were movies, which I still do and I still very much enjoy doing.  I also did a blog on celebrity news, which to be fair is quite easy because you just search on the internet for it and write about it, although I did get bored with it in the end, and a blog about making and managing money which at the time I was very interested in, however in the end it actually started to annoy me because it just didn't work the way I wanted it to.   So far I have enjoyed writing on this blog even though I have only a few posts on here at the moment.

So here are 10 things about me.

1)  I love movies.  I really love movies, I am slightly obsessed with them.  I will generally watch any type of movie, action, comedy, romance, horror, and especially Disney movies.  I love movie collectible too.  And still to this day, from the age of fourteen my favourite actor of all time is Leonardo DiCaprio.  I still think he is gorgeous!!

2)  I love unicorns.   I have unicorn pictures, I have a unicorn dreamcatcher, Myth and Magic unicorn ornaments, unicorn tops and accessories, and a unicorn tattoo.  A real one, on my right upper arm.  It was a 21st birthday gift.

3)  My favourite colour is purple.  Most of my room is decorated purple.

4)   I drive and I passed my test on my fourth attempt in 2005.  I currently have a slate grey Ford Focus, and prior to that I owned a green Nissan Micra (my very first car) and a blue Ford KA.

5)  I like to write in general.   I have written a few short stories in the past and one day I would love to write a book and get it published.   And then turn it into a bestseller.  That would be really cool.   For the time being I just write on my blogs which I really enjoy.

6)  I do like to read too.  I mostly read thrillers from various authors, but I do enjoy the odd 'chick-lit' every now and again, but my favourite author is in fact Stephen King, and my favourite book of his is 'IT', followed very closely by 'The Shining'.

7)  I love American TV shows, my favourites include Supernatural, American Horror Story, How To Get Away With Murder, Criminal Minds and The Big Band Theory to name but a few.  But there are loads more that I love, past and present shows.

8)  I work in retail and have done since I was seventeen.  I am now thirty-three.

9)  I like to colour and paint although I actually can't draw.  I do paint by numbers instead which is actually really very relaxing.  And I am a really big fan of all the different types of adult colouring books you can get now too.

10)  I write a personal diary and have been every day since the 18th of September 1995.  It is probably one of my greatest achievements since passing my driving test!

Why I Have Decided To Start Another Blog.

I have been blogging for some time now, and so far I have really enjoyed my blogging journey.  The truth is, just recently I have been turning my previous blog into a bit of a chore.  As it was on movies I have found that nine times out if ten as you can imagine, I have to watch a movie before I could write a post, but it's not always the easiest thing to do particularly as I work full time.  Basically, I have decided I want blogging to be fun again.

So I have decided that this blog will be all about me and what I love, movies included of course, and everything else as well, and just be a bit more lighthearted in general.   I am even finding the prospect of writing different types of posts exciting.

Blogging is meant to be fun as well.   I love this message because for me, I really do want to create a new me that is happier, and healthier, and blogging, and even painting, provide me with that escapism that I so badly crave.

Top 10 Inspirational Quotes I Have Discovered Today.

So it is Halloween!!  And yet I don't feel like doing a 'Halloween inspired' post today.  Don't get me wrong, I really do love Halloween.  I love all the weird and wonderful d├ęcor you can get, and the spooky costumes you can buy to go trick or treating.  I love watching the Horror movies that they show (or most of them anyway), and most of all I love the whole history surrounding Halloween, I find it all very fascinating.

But I didn't want to do a Halloween post.  So instead I have been scouring the internet for inspiration and I have found some really cool quotes that I think will enlighten anyone's day.   So here are my top 10 for today.

10) Get up every morning and say 'I can do this'.

Simple but I like it.  Sometimes the hardest thing is to be able to get out of bed and start the day!

9) It's okay to be a glow stick. Sometimes we have to break before we can shine.

I like that one.  Something so simple but so true.  The last time I had a glow stick I was at V Festival like eight years ago.  How time flies.

8) You are Amazing, You are Important, You are Special, You are Unique, You are Kind, You are Precious, You are Loved.

This makes me happy.  It is so simple, so effective and so true.

7) Be Awesome Today.

What do they mean? I want to be awesome every day!!!

6)  Don't wait, Life is too short.

Life is too short.  If you want to do something, don't think about it, just do it.

5)  The problem is not the problem; the problem is your attitude about the problem!

I have heard that one before, quoted by the famous Captain Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp in The Pirates of the Caribbean.  I think that is one of my favourites.

4)  Working hard for something we don't care about is called Stress, working hard for something we do care about is called Passion.

I like this one as well.  This one makes me think about my writing when I wrote stories and how it would be great if I could start again.

3) Today I will do what others won't, so tomorrow I can do what others can't.

That's an interesting new outlook.  I like it.

2) I'm not weird, I'm a limited edition!

If anyone calls me weird from now on I'm going to give them this reply.  That is an incredible response.  I quite like the idea of being a 'limited edition'.   I could live with that.

1) Laughter is timeless, Imagination has no age, and Dreams are forever.

I really do love Disney quotes probably the most out all quotes I have ever read, because they always make me happy.  I love this one.  So simple but so effective.

Have a great day.

Creative Social Media Marketing Tips I Have Discovered.

I have noticed during my many years of blogging just how massive an impact social media has had on all the blogs that I have created.   Twitter in particular for me has really been my main focus for sharing anything that I write.   I love Twitter because it provides instant snippets of information that keeps you up to date with what is going on in the world.

Back in the day when I first started blogging, would you believe....the only thing I actually used for any social media interaction was the Google Plus button.  I know, I can hear the 'OMGs' from here.  To be honest at the time it did serve it's purpose and I am very grateful for it.   Of course social media has considerably moved on from that.   So these are a few tips I have found so far that really interest me.

1)  Starting A Pinterest Group Board.

I do use Pinterest a bit, but it is not something that I tend to do every day or even every week sometimes.   Thinking about it I should really utilize it more.   I have heard how some bloggers have even used Pinterest for ideas for blog posts.   I don't actually do that and maybe I should.   At the moment I am just using Pinterest to share my blog posts I have written, which I guess is good as well.   I might need to look into that a bit more because I don't really feel like I am using Pinterest to it's full potential.

2)  Asking Trivia Questions.

Or actually any questions really.  Have a Q & A session in general.  I do like doing list posts so this is another idea I can explore.   I am a fan of general knowledge quizzes in general.   And I do love a bit of Pointless! I will have to come up with some questions and can ask myself and then publish them on here.  Lots of people do that with their blogs.

3)  Start A Weekly Series.

Interestingly I already do this on occasion on my movie blog that I do.  I do Top Ten's and case studies etc.   So I am sure I can come up with a few ideas for here too.  Better start planning those next.

4)  Share Book Recommendations And Reviews.

Definitely need to start reading again, so this is something I will be looking at doing too.   I do like to read books I just don't tend to do it often enough.  I am particularly finding that the idea of seeing a pile of books beside my bed waiting to be read is becoming increasingly more desirable.  Might soon be time to invade the charity shops again.

5) Sharing Playlists.

I need to add more music to my iPod I have decided.  Listening to my iPod is not something I tend to do every day, and I know a lot of people do, but to be honest I need to be in the mood to listen to music.   Generally I tend to add a few tunes to my iPod every month.  When I mean a few I mean maybe five or six.  At the moment.  But really I need to keep on top of that too.  I know it may sound daft but I don't want my iPod to go out of date so quickly I can't add anymore music to it.  That is me talking from experience by the way.  I did an update on iTunes once and afterward it would not accept my iPod that I had at the time.  Never letting that happen again.  So anyway.  I should do that, and then I can share my playlists when I blog.

So that is what I learnt so far today.   I think using Pinterest more would be really beneficial, so I will certainly look into doing that.   I need to start reading again.   And personally for me, I think I would love to somehow embark on building my own 'brand' of sorts.  I need to explore creative social media marketing, and engagement more.  It sounds quite exciting actually.

My Blogging Journey So Far.

Welcome to my brand new blogging venture on my brand new blog, Sarah's DreamScapes.   I find it very exciting starting a new blog, and I have done that a couple of times now.   Some blogs have worked out for me, others....not so much.   I created my first blog, Dolly Wolly Wombat, in 2010.   I seem to recall that after a couple of years of false starts with it, I decided to delete a load of posts that I had originally put on it which when I look back now, I really wish I hadn't because I have no idea what I used to write when I first created it in 2010, and of course back then in those early days I never thought to ever 'back-up' my blog.

When you look at that blog now it says my first blog post was on the 1st of July 2013.   And it is so funny.... The title of the post reads:  Taking The First Steps To Learning How To Become A Blogger, and then underneath a single line reads...."And I don't know what I am doing!'  It is published as well, so somewhere in the internet's stratosphere there is my one line blog post.   Wonderful!! I am sure there are plenty more out there other than mine that are like that...or at least I am hoping there is!!   I would also like to add that as it stands at the moment, I do honestly know a bit more what I am doing when I blog.  Certainly a hell of a lot more than I did back then anyway, which is always good.

So from here on it, I shall now use the 1st of July 2013  as my official blogging start date, even though in the corner of my stats overview page it reads May 2010 - October 2016....

Anyhoo.

I learnt a lot whilst I blogged on Dolly Wolly.  I discovered that I was becoming a bit of a 'news reporter', because my main blogging focus was on Celebrity News and Gossip.  I thought that idea for a blog worked really well for me for a few years, so many people were interested in reading what was going on in Hollywood and Big Brother and Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, X Factor etc.  In all honesty though, I got a bit bored with it because most of the news I read and 'reported' on didn't always interest me but because it had become a habit like I know blogging does for a lot of people, I just kept doing it.   So once upon a time, Dolly Wolly Wombat was the only blog I had.   When I look back on it now I only actually stopped blogging on it properly (because I did dabble back on to it for a bit this year) a year ago.   Dolly Wolly Wombat is not really me anymore.   It was the 11th of July 2015 I declared I was going to Wordpress.  The thing is, I still have my Wordpress blog too which is all about movies because I love movies.... but so what, there are lots of bloggers out there who have two blogs.  Or three, or four!!!

So why have I decided to start a new blog? I have actually sat here just thinking about this for several minutes, and I have decided.... I want to start a new blog because I want to do more, explore more, challenge more and inspire more.  So in a nutshell...Do, Explore, Challenge and Inspire.   That actually has quite a nice ring to it.   Well I think it does anyway.   Lets see how I get on.

Thanks for reading.
