The Importance Of Keeping In Touch With Friends.

I had a really lovely day yesterday.  I was working during the day, which was fine as I don't mind working Sunday's occasionally.  It means I get two days off in the week which I always find beneficial.  But last night was the first time in about 4, in fact possibly 5 months since I have seen a really good friend of mine, Lizzy.  We had sent one or two messages to one another every now and again, but we both work a lot, she sometimes worked in an evening, I work full time in retail, and before we knew it, weeks turned into months and then all of a sudden we're into 2017!

Last night we met up to go to the cinema, and instead of going to our local Odeon, we chose to go to our little independent cinema we have which is Kinema in the Woods.  That is a lovely cinema, and it is quite literally in the middle of the woods.  Lizzy also knows that I do love my thriller movies they are my favourite....so we went to see Split, which was really, very good, and quite possibly one of the best roles in a movie (well he was playing multiple ones!!!) that I have seen James McAvoy play.  If you like psychological, go watch it.  It's bloody brilliant.

Kinema in the Woods is actually a really old fashioned movie theatre too, so you get a break in the middle of the movie, for more sweets or ice cream, or in Lizzy and my case, Christmas present swappage!!  How exciting is it to get a belated Christmas present!!! So I got some candles and a little glass with a miniature baileys and a unicorn plaque and hot water bottle...love my unicorns!! It was awesome.  They are really lovely gifts.

Well the Baileys is no more, and the plaque is hanging on my wardrobe door.  Just need a space for the candles which are really quite ornate, I think would be the appropriate word.  They are lovely.

So we have vowed to not leave it too long next time.  I had such a lovely evening, and the movie was really good.  I am not sure I would have actually gone to see it had Lizzy not invited me to watch it.  I would have seen it when it had come on Netflix for certain, but it's so nice to get to go to the cinema to see it.  It is a much better atmosphere, especially being the old fashioned cinema that is Kinema, which is quite literally in the middle of the woods.

It is so important to keep in touch with friends, and be there for one another when you need to be.  I always say 'better late than never' and that is true, but I don't think I will leave it too long next time.  Even if you just meet up for a coffee, or a quick trip to the cinema, it is always lovely to spend time with your friends.

What I Have Been Up To Lately.

I always find that when I am in work, and you are really busy the days always seem to just merge into one another.   I had to work Sunday this week, at the end of my holiday, so my week was even split by having a day off on Tuesday too.  Don't know where that day went either.  So my second day off this week has been today, and I have done an awful lot, sorting out my last bit of Christmas presents, helping clean out cupboards in the kitchen, watching Life In Pieces, which has become one of my favourite shows as it's so funny to watch, all this whilst having a lavender candle burning.  I love lavender.  It's been quite relaxing really.

I have also been quite organized this last week, as I picked up my step-mother's birthday present, and sent the card, I have also changed two beds at my place of work, House Of Fraser on the Homewares department.  Apparently 'Tribal' is the current trend.  Personally I prefer the Biba bed I did, which is called Leona, it's a kind of beige leopard print.  Biba is actually one of my favourite ever brands.  Along with Ted Baker.   I had a goal to do more pinning on Pinterest which have done, most of which was House Of Fraser stuff and movie stuff.   I've tidied my dressing table.

Tomorrow I have arranged to meet a good friend of mine too, to go to the cinema to see 'Split'.  Apparently it has had very good reviews.  I haven't seen Lizzy in a while so I am really looking forward to it.  Means I can give her, her Christmas present too.  Everybody loves getting belated Christmas presents after all.

Just one other note.  I am a very big movie fan.  I love my films, and I would just like to say a bit thank you to the actor John Hurt for all his incredible contributions to the world of film.  You will be sorely missed.  Rest in peace.

Why I love Waking Up Early.

In general I usually find it very hard to get motivated to wake up early unless I have to, you know, for work.  So far today has been a little different.  This week I am back to work after my weeks holiday, which flew by, by the way.  And I was not supposed to be back to work till yesterday.  However, got a phone call on Saturday evening at around 5.30pm asking me to come into work on Sunday.  Now normally, I really like that.  I like to plan my working week and know exactly what I am doing, without the 'curve balls', however I decided, that it would be good for me as well as for them for me to go into work.  Sundays are quiet.  You can get a lot done on a Sunday.

So today is my day off.  And I woke up at my usual time I would if I was going to work, around 6.15am.  My alarm is actually set for 8.10 as I am off to my dads today.  But I am really enjoying my morning.  What I love most about waking up early is really the early morning...ambience.  The sound of the wind, the distant sound of the cars going by on the main road at the bottom of my close.  Then the sound of the birds chirping in the distance, or in today's case, outside my window.   A bit loud, but I'll let them off.  I love it.

I do enjoy having plenty of time to wake up of a morning.  I don't do rushing really.  I feel like over the past three months that's what I have been doing rather a lot of.  But it's fine.  That's why I started having a play with abstract painting.  It's very relaxing and it makes me sit still for an hour or so.  This is good.

I am now having my second cup of coffee of the morning.  I am feeling quite refreshed and ready to start the day which is good.  It is a bit dull outside, but I still feel as though I would benefit from a brisk walk at some point.  Hopefully it will not start raining.  So I do love waking up early, especially when I am not in work because it gets me a lot more motivated for the day, Certainly more so than if I woke up at say, nine!   I am ready to start the day.

Have a good day guys!

Why I Love Abstract Art.

About a year ago, I generally started surfing the web looking at all kinds of abstract art as I do really enjoy it, and think it is incredibly fascinating.  For me, I just really love the random pictures that people come up with, and their excessive use of colour in some case to compliment it.  I love it. I love random uses of colour.

I read somewhere that a lot of people like to do abstract art for fun.  I personally have discovered I like to do abstract art because I find it very relaxing and I love colour.  I am not the best at drawing I'll be honest, although I did take Graphic Design GCSE at school and that was my favourite class.  I got a C grade in that, and I was so pleased with it.  I worked bloody hard for that C grade too.  I generally love to colour as well and do paint by numbers to chill out.  It's very therapeutic.

The other thing that I love about abstract art is that no two pieces are ever the same.   It is completely unique, unless of course you are personally intent on copying it exactly to create two pieces, two paintings.  But I love the uniqueness, and the individuality of each piece created.  Plus, abstract art is quite weird as well.  I love weird.

My painting.

Even I am not entirely sure what it is supposed to be.  I like it though.  It was actually my first painting with water colours too.  I enjoyed doing it anyway.   I have decided I'm going to call it 'The Eye Of Order', the eye being the thing in the top right hand corner.   I am quite excited to do something else now, now that I have discovered how much I really did enjoy painting this picture.  It is definitely quite relaxing, and also, with abstract art, there are no boundaries.   I love that about it.

I really must start doing more of these. It is quite relaxing.  I always do love to surf the internet looking at different sorts of abstract art.  I really do find this particular style of art so fascinating.   Do check out my Pinterest (link on my blog page) as I do have a little selection of Abstract Art on there that I have collected already.

Top 5 Twitter Accounts I Cannot Get Enough Of.

Like quite a lot of people I go on Twitter every single day, and for me, Twitter is my favourite of the social networks because it's always so up to date with absolutely everything.  There are more than five accounts that I check on Twitter, obviously, but really this list that I have compiled is of 5 Twitter accounts I have been checking daily to see if there is any news or gossip.  I don't always retweet the stuff I have read, but I really do enjoy checking them out.   The following are in no particular order...

1) AHSFX - American Horror Story.

American Horror Story was the very first show last year where I literally sat and watched four complete seasons, one after the other in the space of about five weeks.  Roughly.  I was completely hooked.  It doesn't quite work out at one season per week, but it is pretty close.  I have always been drawn to that weird and wonderful world of Horror and the macabre (Stephen King fan through and through) and this show...just does it for me.  It has everything, I love the characters, the stories, the actors, and I always to love to see the stuff they do behind the scenes and keeping check on upcoming projects on the show.  I might even have to start watching the entire series again from the beginning, because it seriously is so good.

2) Viola Davis.

Like American Horror Story, Viola Davis' show, How To Get Away With Murder is another one I got totally hooked on last year.   I just find Viola Davis as an actress, so compelling to watch.  She is just wonderful.  The only movie I have actually seen of hers before I started watching this show, was The Help, and she was really good in that too.  With this show however she just dominates it.  She plays her character Annalise Keating so well, and I love the whole, whodunit scenarios they come up with and the web of deceit they spin in the amongst the storylines.  It is such a clever show, and Viola Davis is awesome.

3) Zachary Quinto.

I used to be a really huge Heroes fan back in the day, and I always found Zachary Quinto's character Sylar so fascinating.  He was my favourite character in that show because he was so evil, then good, then evil, he was brilliant.  Where Star Trek is concerned I thought he was the absolutely perfect actor to play the part.  He was born to play that role and he does it so well.  It was definitely one of the best pieces of Hollywood casting I have ever seen.  What I love about Zachary Quinto is he keeps his Twitter account up to date, literally daily.  It's brilliant.  I really love to see his little life updates and his current projects he is involved in.   He is just such a fascinating character in his own right.

4) Colin Hanks.

Colin Hanks is a fairly new addition to my Twitter following, and it was actually after I found his Instagram.  I don't really know what it is about him, I think it is just his onscreen presence that I love, he is a great comedy actor.   I just really like him and I think he is really cool.

5) Dorkface.

Dorkface was the very first blog I followed, written by Jemma.   I do check her blog quite regularly, more so than anyone else really.  I love her posts, her creativity, and importantly, her honesty, and I just think she is really fun.  I never tire of reading her blog as it inspires me as a blogger also.  It's always updated regularly, and it's so easy to find when I am on Twitter.  I love it.  Plus she loves unicorns and Matthew Gray Gubler same as me.

What Is It About Pinterest That I Love So Much?!

I have been a bit quiet on the blogging front recently, when you work full time you often find it can take over your life a little bit. Recently I have found that I have become quite addicted to Pinterest , and lots of people write about why they use it. As I have, as I mentioned, become quite addicted to it, there are three reasons for this:

1) I love colour.

2) I love detailed, intricate things.

3) I love to collect things.

I actually love to colour too, and paint.  I have always thought I have a fairly good eye for detail most of the time too.  And I've always been a collector of sorts, unicorns, dragons, faeries, movies...you get the idea!  I love jewellery, and accessories, shoes, bags especially Ted Baker bags, clothes obviously, and art in general.

I love homewares too which helps working on a homewares department of course.  Pinterest gives me loads of ideas for gifts or things I want, it even gives me ideas for work the way they display stuff.  Its even started giving me ideas for summer already, and saving money for it.  Its really cool.

Check out my Pinterest here https://uk.pinterest.com/unicorn1983z/

It does become quite addictive though and after a while you do find you have to pull yourself away from it.   I'm hoping it will give me some ideas for blogging too so we shall see about that.  I have read how some bloggers use it quite regularly, and it does seem that the possibilities with it are endless, that's what I really love about it.  Plus the fact that lately I seem to be on it pinning every single day now.   So I think it's official, I'm slightly obsessed with Pinterest already.

In a good way of course.

Habits Of Successful Bloggers I Have Discovered.

So this is just a general little list I have come up with whilst I spent the other day doing a little bit of research, and generally reading some blogs whilst I was on Twitter.  I do enjoy doing my 'lists' and I have done another one already today for another post too.  This is what I found out anyway for this one.  See what you think....

Habits Of Successful Bloggers.

1) They Post Consistently.

I think it's quite important to post regularly on your blog especially as your followers are going.  I have certainly discovered since becoming a blogger that a lot of people are interested in other peoples lives and what they have to say.  And it's really nice to find a blog that you really enjoy reading, and you can keep up to date with it all the time.   Plus, blogging is actually fun too.

2)  Planning Ahead.

This is something I actually do a lot more of now than when I first started to blog.  I never used to plan at all to be honest.   I think it's been in the last few months that I have really took to using notebooks to write out my posts longhand before I publish them online.  I prefer to do it this way.  I don't tend to go too overboard with my planning.  I tend to do a list here and there, and then I like to plan a post out, write it up longhand so it's ready to go, then start working on the next post so that's in it's mid stages, before I publish the first post.  So far that seems to be working out for me and I quite enjoy doing it that way too.

3)  They Collaborate.

This is something that I haven't honestly thought a lot about, I really would like my own blog to grow and improve a bit more first, but it is something I would like to consider doing in the future.  I know a lot of bloggers collaborate quite frequently.  I definitely find that I read a lot more blogs and share a lot more of others content than I used to, so it could be something to think about one day.

4)  Engaging With Their Audience.

Again, this will be something else I can work on as my blog grows.  My blog does get a few views on it at the moment which I am so pleased with so I know people are taking the time to read all my waffle, so thank you to everyone who has read it so far.  I think I just need to engage a bit more myself really.  What I have been working really hard on, particularly just recently, is building on my Pinterest, which I know is so popular, and I love it because I love collecting things.  Simple as that really.  But I also believe it enables my audience to start building a picture of the type of person that I am as well.  I think that is really good.

5)  Don't Compare Themselves To Others.

I suppose this is the most important one really.  I will be honest, I did compare myself to other bloggers particularly when I first started, but you should never compare yourself to others.  We are all unique in our own special ways, and although I feel my own blogging style still needs a bit of work, there is always plenty of room for improvement.  In general, I am very happy with Sarah's Dreamscapes.

6)  Being Persistent.

I am certainly not expecting my blog to suddenly become popular over night, and I don't tend to blog every day either.  I just really enjoy blogging when I do.  I enjoy writing them in my notebook beforehand, I enjoy typing them up (it can be quite therapeutic actually) I love finding pictures for them too.  And I enjoy sharing my blog too.   Sometimes it's just not possible to post every day, we all lead busy lives after all, but it is always nice as a blogger to be remembered.

Thank you everyone for reading my blog.

Sincerely Sarah x

Top 7 Shows To Watch On Netflix.

Last year was the first time I decided to give Netflix a go.  Prior to that I used to be an Amazon Prime member, and I had been with them for a couple of years.   Amazon Prime had it's own benefits, cheaper postage on products I bought, book deals etc.  Unfortunately it started to lose a lot of it's TV shows, mainly to Netflix, and there were a lot of shows that I simply couldn't get on Prime, like American Horror Story for example, but I could get that on Netflix, so initially that is why I switched.  All because of that one show.  There were so many people who I knew who kept going on about how good it was, so I had to switch.... and it was totally worth it.  I love American Horror Story so much.  The first season, and the fifth season are my favourites so far.  They were awesome, and very addictive to watch.   There are so many shows on there to choose from.  They really have a fantastic selection, and it was cheaper than Amazon Prime too.  Currently, I am watching White Collar.  I am still on season one, but it is really good.

So, I have compiled a little list of seven shows that I think are totally worth a watch, only one of which I have not seen at all, but I have heard great things about, so I've added it ready to watch.

7) White Collar.

I am only three episodes in of this, but it has been very good so far.  I think Neal Caffrey is such a likeable character.  A bit cocky, but detective Peter Burke keeps him in check.  I love the mystery behind the 'whodunnits' and the comedic value the show has.  It's easy watching with very likeable characters.

6) Jonathan Creek.

This show might not be for everyone, but it is, well, a bit of a 'blast from the past' for me.  I have seen every Jonathan Creek series and specials that have been done. I have not long seen the Christmas special they did from last year which was really quite cool too.  A bit like White Collar, what I really love about the show is the mystery behind the stories.  I loved working them out, or at least trying to work them out.  And Alan Davies is a really good actor.  He plays the part of Jonathan so well.  It can be quite addictive too.  It's one of those shows where, I have to know what happens in the end.  I love it.

5) Sherlock.

This was one show I decided to watch this year.  Never seen it before, and I know how popular it has been, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman being amazing actors in their own right, but this year, literally two days ago I watched the first episode and already I am hooked.  I love Sherlock Holmes anyway, best detective ever, and Benedict Cumberbatch plays him brilliantly, and Martin Freeman as Watson, well he is awesome too.  It has been really good.  I am impressed with this one.

4) The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.

I have heard it has just been added to Netflix, and well, I loved it the first time around and I want to see it again.  Simple as that.  There were quite a few episodes I missed too, so I need to watch it all again.  I still love Will Smith.  I need The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air in my life right now.

3) Fargo.

I know this is based on the movie, which I will say I have not seen, but I do know a bit about it, and I have seen the trailers for the show as well as the movie, and it does look good.  Starring Martin Freeman (again) I think it looks quite intriguing from what I have seen so far.  It looks very suspenseful.   I like suspense.  Suspense makes any show exciting.

2) American Horror Story.

This was my number one originally, till something else too over.  I love all of the series of AHS, they are all brilliant.  Scary in places, but I love that, I am actually drawn to it.  It really does irritate me when mainstream TV cut the series in half.  They have done that twice to me with Freak Show and Hotel, and it is so annoying.  But all the series are awesome, and again very addictive.  With Murder House and Asylum I watched the all the episodes one after the other in less than two weeks I was that hooked.  The characters are all just so fascinating.  Brilliantly acted too.  I would definitely recommend this show, if you don't mind a few scares that is.

1) How To Get Away With Murder.

This TV show, was my TV show of the year 2016!  Seriously, it had be hooked right from the very first episode.  Viola Davies is just awesome as Annalise Keating, she is such a fantastic character.  And so far every episode has been incredible.  Mind-blowing in fact.  The acting from all the cast has been brilliant, the storylines have been awesome, again, I love all the twists, and whodunnits, and I love the fact I sit watching it, trying to work it out...I love it.  It is a fantastic show.  If you haven't seen it, you have to watch it.  I cannot wait for season 3 to come on Netflix.  I seriously need it in my life.

Why My First Blog Didn't Do As Well As I Had Hoped.

I always look back fondly on my very first blog that I did, Dolly Wolly Wombat ( which I will add used to be my nickname, hence the title) as it genuinely taught me that blogging was not all about 'reporting'.  I had this idea that if I had a blog where I just simply reported on trending celebrity news, I would suddenly get this huge following, and that the blog would be popular.  But that is not what blogging is about.   Unfortunately it took me about three solid years of writing on this blog to realize that.   At the time, I guess in all honestly, it suited.  It was right for me back then.   And to be fair, hand on heart, if I had decided that all I ever wanted was a blog where I 'reported' on celebrity gossip all day every day, then I would have kept it up.  But it wasn't what I wanted.

In the end, I was writing blog posts every day for Dolly Wolly because I felt I needed to.   I didn't necessarily feel like I had to, but to keep the blog going I guess I just wanted to.  Unfortunately towards the end of my blogging time on Dolly Wolly, most of my posts were actually only about a paragraph long.   So really, my first blog didn't do as well purely because my passion about the subject I was writing about, well I guess disintegrated would be a good choice of words.   I don't tend to write very long posts now, but they are most definitely longer than one ten line paragraph, and I really do enjoy writing my blog post now, that's for sure!  I didn't back then.  I had decided I wanted to make more of my blogging adventure.  I wanted to experiment, expand and create more.  And most importantly, I didn't want any of it to sound forced.   I would like to think I have achieved that in the last year!

I did think about picking up Dolly Wolly Wombat again when I first decided to have a go at lifestyle blogging, as opposed to movie blogging, which I have also turned my hand at, and I did do one or two posts on my first blog too, but honestly, Dolly Wolly is certainly not me anymore, and hasn't been for a while.  I'm not sure how else to describe it other than it just didn't sound right on there anymore.   I just didn't feel as though I could have taken it any further.  I know I have totally outgrown it, and seriously, what is the point of delving back into the past, when really I should be looking to the future?!  I feel now, for me, Sarah's Dreamscapes is the way forward.  With this blog I know I can do anything I like with it, I can build my personal brand, and that in itself is so exciting.  And most importantly of all, I truly do love it.  And I have said it before, 'Amazing Things Can Happen'!
